PIECE OF SILENCE
by Emma Chapuy, Laura Immler, Ferdinand Nowitzky, Olivia Rosendorfer, Paul Schengber, Konstantin Sieghart, Maria Wang Kvalheim, Felix Deufel und Julius ZimmermannFor the exhibition series A Staight Line, an Empty Void of art space D21, we helped the theater collective "Fachbetrieb Rita Grechen" in realizing the exhibition "Piece of Silence", which was created in spring 2018. For the exhibition, we developed a sound installation that enables the potential of silence to be experienced. The supporting program of the exhibition included a concert, workshops on the topics of text recycling and sound in the room, and we also invited to a conversation with Prof. Dr. Kobayashi on the Japanese concept of Ma.You enter the art room and stand in an abandoned café, chatting voices and jazz music can be heard. The tram passing by the windows shakes the room. It is quiet. A white, long thread curtain slowly opens and invites you to the next room. A large cube hangs in the middle, its shadow seems to wander. From a distance a voice sings a fragment of Mathilde Wesendonck's In the Greenhouse. It leads you through a white long tunnel. There other voices join in, the choir fills the tunnel. The eye falls on another cube that disintegrates into individual parts from close up.
